Aerial view of Atulie'er, a cliff village in Sichuan, China, with a steep vertical cliff face and a winding dirt trail leading up to the village. The image includes an overlay with information about the sky ladder, a handmade vine ladder, and the location. The sky ladder is a steel staircase built in 2016, 2,626 feet high, with people climbing it.
Map of Zhaojue Xian in Sichuan, China, showing Atulie’er village and the surrounding landscape. It marks the route from downtown Zhaojue through Cliff Village Hub, with color-coded pathways indicating different speed zones and road types. The map highlights routes, landmarks, and travel times between locations.
An infographic showing environmental and social issues in Atulie'er village, including problems with using a sky ladder and lack of social gathering space. It features images of villagers on the sky ladder, women and children gathering outside a bungalow, and aerial views of the village layout. The infographic emphasizes improving accessibility with minimal environmental impact and creating spaces for social activities.

Concept Ideation

Sketches and diagrams illustrating a design concept for a tree with integrated solar and wind power, including mechanical details, structural support, and various assembly views.
A detailed infographic presenting the concept of a large infrastructure project, with sketches of a tower building, a drone, and a renewable energy setup. Handwritten notes discuss costs, maintenance, efficiency, environmental impact, and technical components like wind and solar power.

Mobility of the Project Atulie’er consists of 3 key components:

The Cabin, Amphibious Platform, and Launch/Landing Pad.

A Cargo Unit can also be used when not carrying passengers.

The Liftoff

Carrying passengers or cargoes from the valley at the bottom.

Why not elevators or cable cars?

The structure of an elevator system might affect the slope stability of the mountain. The cables of cable cars might interfere with the habitat of local birds. Both methods require more infrastructure investment.

Fewer footprints,

less carbon footprint.

The entire Atulie’er project is powered by local renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, allowing residents to commute and enjoy the space without compromising the environment.
